Introduction

Water is a vital and limited resource that is essential for sustaining human life, supporting ecosystems, and driving economic development. However, increasing demands, pollution, and climate change are putting significant pressure on water resources globally. Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) is a holistic approach that seeks to manage water resources in a sustainable and equitable manner, balancing the needs of different stakeholders and sectors.

This course will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of IWRM principles, strategies, and best practices, with a particular emphasis on water conservation projects that can support production economy growth. The course will cover topics such as water resource assessment, demand management, water-efficient technologies, policy and governance frameworks, and stakeholder engagement.

Objectives

  • Understand the core principles and concepts of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM).
  • Explore the challenges and opportunities associated with water resource management, with a focus on production economy growth.
  • Learn about the latest technologies, strategies, and best practices for water conservation and efficient water use in various sectors, including agriculture, industry, and urban areas.
  • Develop skills in assessing water resource availability, mapping water demand, and designing and implementing water conservation projects.
