Introduction

This course provides an in-depth exploration of the latest advancements in deep-water sedimentology and stratigraphy, with a focus on practical applications for the energy, mining, and environmental sectors. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the processes, products, and implications of deep-water depositional systems, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to effectively explore, develop, and manage resources in these complex geological settings.

Objectives

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the key principles and concepts underpinning deep-water sedimentology and stratigraphy.
  • Analyze and interpret the sedimentary facies, architectural elements, and depositional environments associated with deep-water depositional systems.
  • Integrate deep-water sedimentological and stratigraphic data with other geological, geophysical, and engineering information to develop robust exploration and development models.
  • Apply advanced techniques and technologies, such as seismic interpretation, core analysis, and numerical modeling, to characterize deep-water reservoirs and depositional systems.
  • Recognize and mitigate the unique challenges and risks associated with deep-water exploration and development projects.
  • Effectively communicate deep-water sedimentological and stratigraphic concepts to multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
